ORTHOPEDIC & MUSCULOSKELETAL DISORDERS

We treat the full compliment of orthopedic conditions, from fractures and sprains to tendinitis, bursitis, overuse injuries and muscle imbalances. We emphasize one-on-one, individualized care to ensure that your treatment program is continually progressing and tailored to you specifically.

Your first visit is an in-depth, our-hour evaluation that seeks to identify the causes of your problem as well as understanding your symptoms. With this information, we then fashion your individualized treatment plan. We take every care to address not only your present symptoms, but also the underlying causes that contributed to the injury in the first place.

Great importance is placed on careful instruction of exercises so that you can perform them confidently and effectively. We design individualized programs utilizing equipment that is readily available, to promote optimal success as your perform your exercises at home.

Manual techniques, delivered by skilled, sensitive hands, are central to the rehabilitation process. They are used to break up scar tissue, lengthen shortened structures, relax muscles and mobilize lymph, blood and interstitital fluids/irritants to ultimately promote healing. Connective tissue techniques include myofascial release, unwinding, deep connective tissue mobilization, lymphatic decongestion, active release therapy, trigger point therapy and massage. We also employ osteopathic techniques such as muscle energy and craniosacral therapy. We use passive joint mobilization techniques to restore free movement of the joints.

We rely on therapeutic exercise and manual techniques to restore function and relieve pain. This is the difference between receiving only exercises (for instance, from a personal trainer) or only manual work (for instance from a body worker). The more global care that we as physical therapists provide addresses soft tissue problems, joint dysfunction and functional musculoskeletal rehabilitation. All these aspects must be addressed to fully rehabilitate from an injury.
